The Goal
The goal of this prize competition is to present an idea that is innovative, practical, realizable and brings Meteorology forward in society. There is a separate page on the website where guidance is given to what kind of ideas could win the Harry Otten prize.
Individuals and groups up to three persons can participate in the competition. The first submission can be as short as three pages. After a first evaluation a jury, which consists of the members of the Board of the Harry Otten Foundation, will chose a maximum of 8 semi-finalists for the next round. These contestants will then be asked to elaborate on their proposal and present a more thorough paper of their idea. This includes also answering specific questions asked to them by the jury.
After judging the full proposals, the jury will then decide which contestants (up to three maximum) will go to the final round. These three finalists are requested to give a presentation of their idea during a session at the annual meeting of the EMS (European Meteorological Society). The winners will be announced the next day. Harry Otten, who is not part of the board, will present the prize to the winners.
